The 209th UNESCO Executive Committee meeting held in Paris in July 2020 approved Dak Nong Geopark as a global geopark. Dak Nong Geopark is located in Dak Nong province, Central Highlands of Vietnam. This event marks the third UNESCO geopark in Vietnam since 2010 next to Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark and Dong Van Rock Plateau Geopark.

Established in 2015, Dak Nong Geopark covers an area of more than 4700 square kilometers and surrounds the impressive Krong No volcanic system with more than 50 caves. In addition, the park also has many highlights such as Ta Dung Nature Reserve, Dray Sap waterfall and many rare plants and animals listed in the Red Book of Vietnam.
More interestingly, Dak Nong Geopark is also home to hundreds of ethnic minorities, dating back to 6000 – 7000 years ago. Coming here, visitors have the opportunity to meet some tribes of Ede and M’Nong residents.
In the long term, Vietnam wants to have 4 more geoparks in Gia Lai, Bac Kan, Quang Ngai and Phu Yen provinces.
