Caramel pudding (Hang Than)
Near the corner of Hang Than and Hoe Nhai, there are about 3 or 4 shops selling homemade caramel pudding and yogurt. It’s easier to take away but if you don’t mind jostling a bit, you can of course sit down. They are masters at mixing yogurt and caramel pudding with fruit, sticky rice and all sorts of delicious jellies.

Hoa Qua Dam – Fruit salad (To Tich)
The specific fruits change with the seasons, but since you are in a tropical country the beauty of the variety is a marvel. The general idea is that medium sized pieces of different flavors are topped with condensed milk and served with a separate ice bowl.

Ngo Tam Thuong
The whole alley is devoted to this dish. Banana leaf rice paper can be fried or barbecued at your request. A small portion of hot sauce is served with a plate of pachyrrhizus or mangoes. You can always ask for soy sauce if the sauce is too spicy! Fries and sometimes chicken wings are also available.

Ngo Hang Chieu
Unlike the other three addresses, Hang Chieu valley is a famous destination for those who want to try many different dishes at once. The small shops here are like paradise for those who want to access authentic local cuisine. It’s a bit crowded, especially at lunchtime. You’ll find most of the popular pho dishes, banh xeo (Vietnamese pancakes with shrimp and bean sprouts inside), che (sweet beans and jelly) and more.

Mon Nuong-Ly Van Phuc
Nestled in the middle of the long Nguyen Thai Hoc street, Ly Van Phuc easily stands out with the smoke rising from the many grills next to each other. The local BBQ specialty here is chicken feet, however if the idea of trying one is too scary, you can always order chicken thighs or ribs, both are equally delicious. These delicacies are usually served with a plate of fresh vegetables and a chili-based dipping sauce. On cold nights, what’s better than 2 grilled chicken skewers and 1 cup of rice wine? Try it and love it.

All the shops mentioned above are open all day, 7 days a week, but don’t try your luck after 10pm.
