Little cake is one of the specialties of Central Vietnam, often used on the anniversary of the death anniversary, weddings in the region, but now it has become a snack that you can enjoy at any time. There are two versions of banh chung: the sweet one called banh chung with leaves of thorns and the savory one called banh chung with shrimp and meat, both of which are unique and delicious.

The cake is simply a mung bean ball covered with a dough made from a mixture of crushed hemp leaves, sugar and glutinous flour. Sweetened grated coconut is sometimes used in place of green beans. After folding the banana leaf into a cone, drop the dough ball in and fold the four sides, forming a pyramid cake. Steaming is the last step to make the cake have a glossy, dark black color of hemp leaves, the sweetness of sugar, green beans, glutinous rice and the mild aroma of banana leaves and hemp leaves.

For savory pancakes, minced pork, shrimp, crushed green onions and spices are sautéed until cooked and thick to make the filling, and the dough is made with only rice flour. The cake can be wrapped with banana leaves in the traditional way or not. Indeed, both versions of the cake are so delicious and small that you can hardly imagine how quickly you will enjoy the whole cake, but gradually enjoying it will of course be much more delicious.
